Hyprland patches
Five patches, 292 lines, to a 7,700-commit C++ compositor: BT.1886 gamma for an HDR TV, colour-exact screenshots, a SIGBUS guard, a screencopy leak fix — and the shim stack that keeps them alive across every upgrade

About
Running Hyprland on an HDR television exposed five things I could measure and fix. A #121212 terminal background captured as 40/255 while the panel showed it correctly; the compositor was decoding the screenshare mirror copy with the display's EOTF preference and the wrong luminance range. After the patch it captures as 18, exact. A capture client truncating its own shared-memory pool raised SIGBUS inside the GPU driver and took the whole session down; a scoped guard now maps a zero page over the fault, drops one frame, and carries on. A screencopy session leaked per recorded frame on a scale-2 output, about 390,000 in an afternoon, and torn down quadratically the main thread stalled 231 s when the TV woke.
Two of the five went upstream as pull requests with full root-cause write-ups and 398 passing tests. The patches live as files. A PATH shim, a pacman hook and Omarchy hooks rebuild the patched binary after every upgrade and fall back to the packaged one if the build fails.
Key features
- 010001 · bt1886 as an sdr_eotf value: gamma 2.4 on the HDR head; 3 new gtest cases, 398 tests across 39 suites pass
- 020002 · render:cm_sdr_eotf applied at runtime: a function-local static cache was refreshed only on full reload, so the option silently did nothing
- 030003 · the screenshare mirror copy decoded with the source's own transfer function and range: #121212 captures 40 → 33 → 18, exact
- 040004 · CShmAccessGuard: a scoped SIGBUS handler that maps a zero page instead of unwinding out of a driver call; faults outside the range re-raise
- 050005 · screencopy sessions released with their client; region boxes matched as stored; one deferred compaction instead of an O(n²) walk
- 06A wiki pull request documenting that "default" does not follow the global EOTF, plus the two undocumented values
- 07Shim in /usr/local/bin with ldd and --version fallback to the packaged binary; pacman hook over ~78 packages; Omarchy autosync and notify hooks
- 08Patches are files, applied with git am into a disposable worktree; a conflict resolved once never recurs
